Cloud enables distribution automation because it provides a framework to capture and understand patterns and opportunities for optimization. It allows us to understand the details about what's happening so we can take an enhanced look on how to solve the problem of monitoring and managing advanced distribution.

What separates the cloud from a conventional data server is the ability to also scale up the computational capability. So you typically think of a computer as having a fixed resource, a fixed memory, a fixed set of capabilities. In this case what you're really also doing is enabling, the cloud enables you to dial up to whatever level resources you need to preform whatever calculation you're doing and you don't have to buy a machine that physically large because it's basically something you can acquire through a service.

I think the key to why cloud can enable and benefit all utilities is the flexibility that's inherent in the cloud. When you have a small verses large and traditional model you have to worry about the cost to manage that infrastructure to address the three aspects; the data, the analytics, and managing the data for the customer. In this case you really kind of have the ability to subscribe or serve out those from the cloud. So we see that as a strong leveling device between the smaller players to essentially approach the same level of service the large utilities would otherwise provide.
